Clones are taking over this City

Ahh...gotta love Melbourne Fringe Festival on Twitpic

This is what I missed while I was working, part of the Fringe Festival.

From the Fring Site "Take Off Your Skin (TOYS) is a large-scale collaborative dance performance. A collaboration with Japanese artist Yasuko Kurono, TOYS is a multiplying project that manifests in public spaces – both virtual and physical."

"During the 2009 Melbourne Fringe Festival clusters of Kurono clones will intercept iconic sites throughout Melbourne, climaxing in an imploding mass of dance, abstraction, poise and presence. The clones’ mission is to reveal the beauty in pattern and numbers, provoking reflection and difference in common spaces."

"Participants perform and record their experiences in small pods of clones and as a mass under choreographed guidance. Post-performance, the dance of the clones will be revealed online – showing a multiplicity of viewpoints from the participants and the audience."

Exhibitions this Weekend

Two street art exhibitions to check out this weekend, hopefully I’ll have time to see them. Found these out via the Melbourne Fringe Festival website.

Melbourne Stencil Festival is on at Yarra Sculpture Gallery 117 Vere Street Abbotsford according to the Fringe website (found here), but the stencilfestival lists Collingwood Underground, 44 Harmsworth St. Collingwood(Just across the pedestrian footbridge from the Yarra Sculpture Gallery) as another address, which makes me confused. But easily dealt with because both locations are fairly close. EDIT 3/10/09: Found out today after going there it's in two venues, well worth it.

Second we have Urban Art Agenda #3 at Famous When Dead Gallery (Urban Art Agenda) 207 Victoria St West Melbourne, has featured artwork by A1one (Tehran), Ananda Nahu (Salvador, Brazil), David Soukup (Chicago), ELK (Canberra), El Moocho (Melbourne), Izolog (Salvador, Brazil), HaHa (Melbourne), Jana and JS (Salzburg), Jef Aerosol (Lille), Kenji Nakayama (Boston), Mandarina Brausewetter (Vienna), M-City (Gdynia), Orticanoodles (Milan), Ozi (São Paulo), Penny (London), Skran (Lisboa), and XOOOOX (Berlin).
