I've just updated this blog, as you can see I'm going through a Minimal faze.
The blog redesign is also to align itself with the streetsofmelbourne tumblr page.
I really like the tumblr designs compared with the blogger ones available, simple and uncluttered, and the tumblr iphone app for posting and viewing, compared to the google blogger iphone app. I don't like having two websites for the same thing I'm working on, and will slowly be moving this blog across to tumblr.
I haven't had much time over this year to keep this blog going, with study, but I'll be posting again in December (well that's my plan anyway for now).

Stickers in Footsray
Images from Craig Cole, recently posted around Footscray. I don't visit Footscray that much, so it's good to see some sticker action is happening there. Thanks to Craig for sending them through.

THE SOCIAL STUDIO
I'm going through some old photo's on my Iphone/Dropbox folder and found these pictures.
Taken some time ago, the Social Studio was/is a space on the walk way between the Old Lonsdale Street Myers Building and Melbourne Central shopping complex. Great use of a dead space, as the building on the connecting side is currently being demolished or redeveloped.
DOPIO SOLO SHOW “Good As A Holiday”
PRESS RELEASE
DOPIO SOLO SHOW “Good As A Holiday”
OPENING FRI 15 JULY 6-9PM
SHOWS TILL 31 JULY
They say a change is as good as a holiday, but Melbourne Graffiti Artist Dopio, has proven that a holiday, is equally as good for inspiring change. In this multi-faceted Installation show, Dopio shows how a recent holiday to Europe has inspired a rush of ideas and dramatic change to his artistic Identity and style. ‘I became influenced by the straight chrome letters on the transit system and the bold, detailed characters I saw,’ he states about the Netherlands, where his new journey of exploration began.
Originally a Perth Artist, Dopio has been exhibiting and painting walls in Melbourne, Interstate and Abroad prolifically since moving to Melbourne over 5 years ago. Previously known under several other aliases, it was in Diest Belgium while writing a coffee menu, that the new Moniker “Dopio,” arose to parallel the artistic transformation. The word ‘Doppio’ in Italian translates to Double Shot, but can also be likened to the Artist’s Double Identity aswell as referring to two or more styles.
Dopio has primarily been known as a character and abstract writer in the past, but has realized that in order to keep his style progressing and pushing boundaries, he must experiment and perfect as many styles of the graffiti art form as possible. This exhibition is a display of his skill and versatility; including everything from old school throw-ups, backgrounds, detailed characters and self portraits to colorful canvases that melt into the painted walls. Also including a rusty ratrod lowrider built almost entirely from scratch, posters and more. As the Artist explains, ‘everything is still done in my style, but I’m just taking a more refined and diverse approach to it all now, rather than doing one or two styles- I want to eventually perfect them all.’ Best part is, although all the mediums meld into one playful fun and composed piece, anything not actually painted on the walls, comes off and is for sale! So come down, grab a bargain, and support change!!

I've just opened a Tumblr page for this blog, streetsofmelbourne.tumblr.com and submissions can be posted here streetsofmelbourne.tumblr.com/submit (although this goes in a Queue for approval).
I'm finding the Tumblr app on the iphone a great way to post on a few other blogs I've got. However I wont be closing this blog down, but using Tumblr, like twitter, to compliment this blog.

Poster's in Melbourne
I've been taking part time lessons in graphic design, and have started this tumblr page gregsvisualdiary.tumblr.com to keep an online visual diary (an idea from the course).
One tag that may be of interest to readers of this blog is poster's in Melbourne (gregsvisualdiary.tumblr.com/tagged/posters_in_melbourne). I haven't added any of these pictures to this blog as I thought they were more commercial and could be posted in other cities and other parts of the world. I may end up posting some of these images to this blog, possibly a best of or highlights of the month.
